“But he answered and said, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
“And be not afraid of them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28).
“As the living father sent me and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me. This is the bread of which came down out of heaven: not as the fathers did eat, and died: he that eateth this bread shall live for ever” (John 6:57-58).
“The … I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly” (John 10:10).
Lord Jesus Christ was tempted by the enemy Satan for forty days. During that time, He did not eat or drink. Satan has asked the Lord after forty days of fasting, to convert the stone into bread for which the Lord answered that the man shall not live by bread alone. Man’s body which runs by physical life needs energy to sustain. The energy comes by eating and drinking, supplies strength to the body to live and do it work. But the Lord said man shall not live by bread alone, that means there is another kind and source of life by which man can live.
Jesus Christ told his disciples that be not afraid of them that kill the body but not able to kill the soul. God created man and He alone has right over the life (body and soul) of man. But if someone kills another, takes the life out of that person, he kills only body but not soul. The soul which is another element of man’s total composition cannot be killed by any man. The creator God is able to destroy both body and soul. When man’s physical life in the body ceased to exist here on earth, does not mean the man’s soul cease to exist. Man’s soul continues in another realm. God has right whether to destroy or save soul of man depends on his life here on earth.
Lord Jesus Christ has miraculously fed five thousand men by blessing five loaves and two fishes. Those who witnessed the miracle sought him because they ate of the loaves and were filled. They were concerned about physical life which requires bread or any food to supply energy to sustain this earthly life. The best food available on earth cannot make man to live forever. The physical body degenerates over a period inspite of taking best care. They were interested to see how their physical bodies live and sustain. Jesus Christ is interested to communicate to them about the life after the body ceased to exist here on earth. He told them that He is the living bread came down from heaven and those who eat Him will never die. If anybody eats the living bread which came from heaven, his soul will never die. He is passed from death into life.
Creator God and father of all creation has life in Himself. So, we call Him as living father. Jesus said, He lives because of the Father. If anyone claims that he is the life, he should have life and overcome death. Jesus Christ received this commandment from God to lay down his life and receive his life back. Jesus Christ died and rose again because He has life within himself, and death could not bind him. Jesus Christ promises the same Life to all those who believe in Him. Whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have an everlasting life (John 3:16). “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth on me though he die yet shall he live; And whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die …” John 11:25-26. Whosoever believed on Jesus Christ, though his physical body decay and die, his soul which is the real life of a man will never be destroyed. He has the power to destroy and has the authority to save and give life. Those who believed in Him can learn to live not by physical life alone but through the life of God now and after leaving this world too.
Jesus Christ has come into this world to give us life. This life is also called eternal life, very life of God. God is eternal and His life is called eternal life. God created man in the image of God. He has put a spirit in man which is the part of that image to communicate with man. God loves man and want to share His life with man. He manifests his love towards man by giving him his life, so that man can have fellowship with God here on earth and after leaving this world in another realm. His life is only one can live here and other realms as well.
Jesus said “I came that they may have life, may have life it abundantly” John 10:10.
When a man believes on Jesus Christ who is the source of all life, will have the life of God. This life changes the person’s outlook and purpose of this earthly life and prepares him for the true life to be with God in eternity and in glory. He said they may have this life abundantly, that is more and more life is lived here towards heavenly prospective with divine nature.
The life Jesus promises is not a life derived by bread, not a life can be destroyed by anybody. This life is heavenly source of life directly coming from God the source of all life.
